It's expensive to do business in the Virgin Islands. I'm not complaining - it's just a fact of life.
Even in a strong economy, most small businesses struggle with labor costs, taxes, rent and utilities. In a weak economy, even the larger and more stable small businesses have to consider cutting costs.
Consumers are pinching pennies as well. Not spending money that you don't have is always a good practice. And saving money by shopping around is never a bad idea.
