New parents praise Schneider Hospital

Recently, we became the proud parents of a beautiful baby girl, Avalene Stone Warren. That story alone should be enough, but this letter is not about us.
We spent nine months of the pregnancy and all of the years before it hearing horror story after horror story about the experience of patients at the hospital on St Thomas. So much so, that when it was finally time to go to the hospital to deliver, we arrived defensive and intimidated.
We had heard that we would be treated rudely, that no one would care about us or provide the help that we needed. We had heard that our rights would be denied, we had heard about inept staff, we heard heard about dirty conditions and we were told they would be mean.
We are writing this letter to share with the community that these "myths," at least in our experience, are completely false.
In fact, quite the opposite. We would describe the entire stay and experience as extremely positive. Everyone from the security personnel to the administration to the nursing staff were incredibly respectful, helpful, caring and kind. Beyond that, the entire staff seemed incredibly knowledgeable and worked together seamlessly.
The nurses and nurse midwives are heroic and selfless. We were grateful for the professional, attentive and gentle care, and could not have asked for a better experience.
It seems important that this community hear a positive story. We all need to help bolster each other to make this place great, and our child was fortunate to have her first experiences surrounded by the positive welcome at Schneider Hospital.
A huge, heartfelt thank you to the entire labor and delivery, nursery and postpartum staff.
- Jared Warren, St. Thomas
