Davis leads WAPA/Health/PWD to softball win

Michael Davis hit a solo home run in the first inning and finished with three hits in three plate appearances to lead WAPA/Health/Public Works to a 6-3 victory over UVI in a Governmental and Industrial Coed Slow-pitch Softball League game on Friday on St. Thomas.

Nicole Osbourne went 2-for-3 for WAPA, and Winston Cartier was the winning pitcher. Vernon Jones was on the mound for UVI.

Troy Richards, Malik Webster and Kenneth Arthur combined for six hits to pace the UVI offense.

First Bank/Jewelers 11, Fire 4

Victor Portes clubbed three hits and drove in two runs to spark First Bank/Jewelers in a win over Fire on Thursday. Franklin Mercado added two hits and three RBIs for First Bank, while Luis Tirado and Maxwell Rijo finished with two hits apiece. Frank Thomas went 2-for-3 to lead Jewelers.

Elmo Plaskett West Little League Baseball

Ahijaa Sweeney struck out 11 batters and threw a no-hitter to lead the Angels to a 3-0 victory over the Cardinals in an Elmo Plaskett West Little League Baseball 7-9 age division game on Friday on St. Croix.

Sweeney surrendered just one walk, and got Luis Soto to ground out for the final out in the fourth inning. The Angels never trailed, finished with two hits and scored three runs in the third inning.

Angels 27, Chuis 0

Fernando Joseph threw two scoreless innings as two pitchers combined for the no-hitter, and the Angels' shut out Chuis in a 10-12 age division game on Friday. Joseph struck out five batters and added two hits on offense. The Angels scored 17 runs in the first inning, finished with 10 hits and 13 RBIs in the game. Jovanny Medina reached base for Chuis.

Elrod Hendricks West Little League Baseball

Ahmed Joseph had two hits in two plate appearances to lift the Twins to a 4-3 victory over the Achievers in an Elrod Hendricks West Little League game on Saturday on St. Thomas.

Elvis Stephens Jr. was the winning pitcher, and Miguel Encarnacion went 2-for-3 for the Twins. Chad Bryan was on the mound for the Achievers.

Patrick Richards and Chad Bryan each went 3-for-3 to pace the Achievers.

Sluggers 9, Storm 5

Ramal Penn and Jeavon Francis combined for four hits to lead the Sluggers to a win over the Storm on Saturday. The Sluggers finished with seven hits, and Bryan Baynoriol was the winning pitcher. Davean Plummer had two hits in three plate appearances for the Storm.

Marlins 19, Archers 7

Toshawn Drew had a big day at the plate and finished with five hits to propel the Marlins to a victory over the Archers on Saturday. Alex McFarlane and K'Quadeem Christopher each went 3-for-4 for the Marlins while Adonis Berroa was the winning pitcher. Najer Victor had two hits for the Archers.

Rebels 6, Marlins 4

Dennis Senelis had two hits in four plate appearances and the Rebels out-dueled the Marlins on Friday. Senelis was also the winning pitcher for the Rebels, who scored six runs on six hits. Alex McFarlane was on the mound for the Marlins and also had two hits on offense.

Junior Fire 21, Storm 3

Shakhoy Smith went 3-for-4 and led an offensive charge for the Junior Fire in their victory over the Storm on Friday. Jahsief Benjamin, Alliel Phillips, Keemorie Nicholson and Lourenz Gonzalez added two hits apiece for the Junior Fire. Joseph Clendinen was the winning pitcher, while the Storm had DaNeil Joseph as their pitcher.

Alvin McBean East Little League Baseball

The Alvin McBean East Little League is inviting the community to the 2012 season's Opening Day on Saturday on St. Thomas. A parade will start at 9 a.m. from the Four Winds Plaza parking lot and proceed to Alvin McBean Ballpark. A short ceremony will held at 9:45 a.m., followed by four games at 10:30 a.m. Food and drinks will be on sale. No vendors allowed. USVI Soccer Association

The U.S. Virgin Islands Soccer Association will host its 9th Club Championship at 7 p.m. Friday at Lionel Roberts Stadium on St. Thomas with the St. Croix champion Helenites facing the St. Thomas second-seeded Togetherness.

The game will be followed by a match between the St. Thomas Region and defending territory champion New Vibes against the St. Croix second-seeded Rovers.

The winners will meet in the championship match at 7 p.m. on Sunday, while the losers will play a consolation at 5 p.m.

Since 2000, the tournament is a yearly event used to determine the association's champion and who will earn the right to represent the USVI in future international club events.

USVI Rounders League

In rounders action on Sunday on St. Thomas, the Lady Falcons defeated the St. Thomas Stars, 237 to 224. St. Thomas batted first and scored 224 as the top batters were Josian Dyer with 82, Kidsie Bassue with 40 and Alison Johnson with 31.

In reply, the Lady Falcons scored 237, and the top batters were Metrona Bellot with 52, Sunshine Guiste with 51 and Jacqueline Xavier with 37.

Hounds and Foxes Track Club

St. Mary's Nia Jack and St. Patrick's Nyhne Daniel each had three first-place finishes to lead the Hounds and Foxes Track Club at the St. Croix IAA Elementary Track and Field Meet earlier this month. Walton Jack, of Pearl B. Larsen, also had three first-place finishes and also took second in the 600-meter run.

Pearl B. Larsen's Osaze Williams and St. Mary's Paige Combie tallied two first-place finishes apiece. Jack was named the Group 1 MVP while Williams took the same honor for Group 2.
