V.I. Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen honored St. Croix native Kevin Krigger during a session of the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

Christensen read into the record of the House that Krigger is the first African-American jockey to win the Santa Anita Derby.

Krigger, riding 3-year-old bay colt Goldencents, won the $750,000 Santa Anita Derby in Arcadia, Calif., on Saturday, beating out favorite Flashback to secure a spot in the Kentucky Derby.

Krigger, 29, now has a chance to become the first black jockey to win the Kentucky Derby since Jimmy Winkfield won his second in 1902.
