USVI women fall to Barbados at CAZOVA Championship
ST. CROIX - The U.S. Virgin Islands women's volleyball team fell to the two-time champion Bahamas Tuesday night at the 14th Senior Women's Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association Championship (CAZOVA) at Central High's Ronald Charles Arena on St Croix.
The USVI, won the first set, 25-15. But the Bahamas recovered to win the next three sets, 15-25, 13-25, 22-25.
Valissia Brathwaite led the USVI with 13 points, followed by captain Sacha Gumbs with 10.
Leading the way for the Bahamas, which held advantages in block (8-6) and serving (14-8), was the Katrina Lightbourn with a match-high 15 points, while Tia Charlow added 11 and captain Krystel Rolle got 10.
Barbados faced Trinidad and Tobago Thursday night, followed by the USVI facing Jamaica. Results were not available at presstime.
Quarterfinal action begins at 6 p.m. today with three matches.
Right Mix and Legacy win in V.I. Pride basketball league
ST. THOMAS - Akil Lewis scored a game-high 27 points to lead Right Mix past Shut Dem Down, 86-68, Wednesday night in the V.I. Pride Summer Open Basketball League.
Wayne Rawlins added 23 points and 12 rebounds for Right Mix, followed by Torian Henry with 19 points as Right Mix held a 44-32 lead at halftime. Keryn Donadelle led Shut Dem Down with 16 points, while Cedric Smith added 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Kashawn Benjamin had 13 points.
In the second game at the Charlotte Amalie High School gym, Legacy jumped to a 50-29 lead at halftime and cruised to an 89-56 win over Elite. Malik Hodge scored 18 points for Legacy, followed by Jerrick Amaro with 16 and Fitzroy Dunrod with 14. Jaymar Morgan was Elite's top scorer with 11 points.
Adult tennis camp
ST. CROIX - Tennis pros Don deWilde and Greg James will run an eight-hour weekend adult tennis camp this weekend at Buccaneer Hotel. The camp will involve instruction, new drills and some cardio. The cost is $120 per person and payment reserves a spot.
The camp is for intermediate and advanced players, and will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on today, and from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call 718-3036.
Beach wrestling
ST. THOMAS - The V.I. Wrestling Federation invites the public to beach wrestling at Brewers Bay beach on the first and third Sunday of every month at 11 a.m. For more information, call Shamsie at 690-8632.
Summer Skimboarding camps
ST. THOMAS - SkimCaribbean Skim Camps are now open for registration as the 5-day sessions have already started and will be held throughout the summer. All skill levels are welcome as freelance skimboard instructors will be on hand Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon at Morningstar Beach. Private and small group lessons are also available.

Boys Under-15 soccer tryouts
The U.S. Virgin Islands Soccer Association will hold tryouts for the USVI Under-15 boys soccer team. Training sessions will be conducted Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-7 p.m. at Free Will Baptist School on St. Croix, and at the University of the Virgin Islands soccer field on St. Thomas.
Tryouts are open for boys born on or after Jan. 1, 1997, and possess a valid U.S. passport. The team will participate in competition from Friday to July 27.

Soccer clinics
The USVI Soccer Association is conducting free soccer clinics on St. Croix and St. Thomas that are open to boys and girls ages 5-13. The clinics take place from 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday at Good Hope School and Educational Complex on St. Croix and at the University of the Virgin Islands soccer field on St. Thomas.

Taekwondo classes
