Renovations of $150,000 began Monday at the Rudy Krigger Recreation Complex in Estate Sion Farm on St. Croix.
The first phase of renovations includes work on the public restrooms, concession areas, plumbing and electricity, roof replacement and stadium repair, according to a press release from the Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation.
The funds come from the Department of Interior Land and Water Conservation Fund and the State and Local Assistance Grant Program, according to DSPR commissioner St. Clair N. Williams.
Williams listed the following companies as contractors for the project: St. Hillare Construction Company (roof and stadium), K. James Construction (restroom restoration) and Edmond Anthony Plumbing.
"This phase will complement the landscaping work that has been done in the area with the cooperation of the adjacent landowners," Williams said.
Landowners approved the clearing of shrubbery in the area surrounding the complex. Williams said efforts will be made to keep the softball and soccer fields, and the basketball, paddle ball and tennis courts available during the 90-day renovation period.
