Taking Ova tops Legacy, 87-77, to force Game 5 All-Star Teams

ST. THOMAS - Taking Ova recovered from a six-point deficit at halftime to outscore Legacy, 51-35, in the second half and win Game 4 of the V.I. Pride Summer Open League Finals, 87-77, on Thursday night at the Charlotte Amalie High School gym. The win denied Legacy the league title and forced a decisive Game 5 at 8 p.m. tonight.
Khalid Gerard led Taking Ova with a game-high 29 points while adding 11 rebounds. Jahbari Brown was second on the team with 18 points and 19 rebounds, followed by Shamal Caines with 15 points.
Legacy was led by Malik Hodge with 22 points and eight rebounds. He was followed by Rasheem Richards with 18 points, Andrew Christian with 16 points, and Shakoi Peters with 10 points. Jerrick Amaro scored eight points and had a game-high 20 rebounds.
On Wednesday night, Legacy edged Taking Ova in Game 3, 88-87, to take a 2-1 series lead. Legacy's Ronnie Cummings led the team with 20 points, with Amaro adding 18 points and 16 rebounds. Christian scored 17 points and Peters recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Azamba Galloway led Taking Ova with 20 points, while Gerard collected 18 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Brown with 15 points and 16 rebounds.
All-Star rosters announced
A total of seven players from the league Finals were selected as all-stars for the league's All-Star festivities, which are scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at the CAHS gym. Legacy's Malik Hodge, Amaro and Peters will join Taking Ova's Ryan Mills, Caines, Gerard and Brown.
All-Star festivities will include a Youth 3-on-3 Game, an Administration 3-on-3 Game, a Two-man 3-point Competition and a Slam Dunk Competition.
